Content Calendar
A planning tool that schedules what content will be published, on which platforms, and when.
Full definition
A content calendar is a scheduling system — typically a spreadsheet, Notion board, or dedicated tool like Later or Hootsuite — that maps out upcoming social media posts, blog articles, email campaigns, or other content across platforms. A good content calendar includes: publication date and time, platform, content type (Reel, carousel, story, post), caption, visual asset reference, campaign tags, and approval status. Content calendars enable: consistent publishing schedules, advance approval workflows, cross-channel coordination, visibility into content gaps and topic diversity, and planning around seasonal events, product launches, or campaigns.
Real-world example
A restaurant plans a monthly content calendar with Monday 'Behind the Kitchen' Reels, Wednesday recipe carousels, and Friday 'Weekend Special' stories — maintaining consistency without daily scrambling for ideas.
